Master in Health Equity (MSc)

The Master in Health Equity (MAHEQ) is an Erasmus Mundus Joint Master programme for students who want to work with health, wellbeing, and equity in meaningful and responsible ways.

This is an international, full time, 2-year mobility programme where you study in Bergen (Norway), Zaragoza (Spain) and Helsinki (Finland) with a 3-month internship at a humanitarian organisation.

MAHEQ supports students in developing the judgement, awareness, and confidence needed to work thoughtfully in complex and changing contexts.

How the programme is organised

MAHEQ is a two-year programme (120 ECTS) delivered across three partner universities: Bergen (Norway), Zaragoza (Spain), and Helsinki (Finland).

Students move together through these locations as part of a shared learning journey that combines academic study with practice-based learning. Mobility across countries and contexts is a core part of the programme and supports learning through different perspectives, environments, and forms of practice.

Degree, recognition, and access

MAHEQ is an Erasmus Mundus Joint Master’s Degree leading to a jointly awarded Master of Science (MSc). The programme carries 120 ECTS credits and is completed over four semesters.

The degree is delivered by a consortium of full partners: Western Norway University of Applied Sciences, University of Zaragoza, and Arcada University of Applied Sciences, together with Humanity & Inclusion as an international non-governmental organisation and full programme partner.

The programme is open to applicants from all regions of the world. Erasmus Mundus scholarships are available and awarded through a competitive selection process. Full details are provided in the Admissions section.

Horizons of engagement

MAHEQ is particularly relevant for those with backgrounds in health, social and care services, and beyond, who want to engage more deliberately with the factors shaping health, wellbeing, and equity — in practice, organisations, and wider society.

Graduates go on to work across a range of fields, including health and care services, service and system development, public policy, civil society, and non-governmental organisations. These engagements may involve professional practice, research and inquiry, advocacy, education and facilitation, and initiatives related to social and planetary wellbeing.

MAHEQ supports engagement at different levels — from everyday professional practice and local collaboration to organisational development and policy processes. In this way, the programme strengthens existing professional roles while opening pathways to work with responsibility, judgement, and collaboration in complex settings.
